The Presentation: Marking the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrims’ arrival, this fascinating presentation explores the hardships, decisions, and defining moments that shaped the founding of Plymouth Colony. Through historical accounts, maps, satellite imagery, and storytelling, the lecture traces the Pilgrims’ dangerous Atlantic voyage, their unexpected landing on Cape Cod, early encounters with Indigenous peoples, and the eventual settlement at Plymouth. The program also examines the devastating 1618 plague that wiped out the Patuxet village, the colony’s brutal first winter, and the crucial alliance forged with the Wampanoag Nation through leaders such as Samoset and Massasoit. Blending history, geography, and human resilience, this compelling talk offers a deeper look at one of America’s most enduring origin stories.
The Speaker: Christopher Daley has spent more than 30 years presenting engaging historical lectures throughout New England and, more recently, virtually across the United States. A retired history teacher with degrees in Political Science and History from Bridgewater State University, Chris has also served in leadership roles with several historical organizations and appeared as a historical consultant on programs for the Travel Channel. He is the author of Murder and Mayhem in Boston: Historic Crimes in the Hub and has been featured as a historian on programs exploring the Lizzie Borden case. Chris and his wife Cathy, who serves as DaleyHistory’s photographer and research partner, recently relocated to Citrus Springs, Florida.
